about

My $2+ patreon backers voted pretty overwhelmingly for me to cover this Concrete Blonde song for my eventual Halloween/xmas album. It's been a favorite to play live for a while and I was stoked to record a fully-produced version -- but how to capture the live energy? I really wanted the sonic richness and possibility that multitracking provided -- I layered electric cello as bass, lots of acoustic cello including some artificial harmonics (those are difficult but spooky). Then to get in the right mindset for the vocal recording, I made myself a large sazerac (probably my favorite New Orleans-originated cocktail) since I didn't have any fresh blood on hand.... the slurping sounds are absolutely disgusting and I cringed every time I heard them while editing, but I think that's the right choice :D
