about

This enormous 2019 collection is arranged more thematically than chronologically. It includes almost three years worth of cover songs I made for Patreon/Bandcamp subscribers, many of them chosen by me, many by my backers themselves.

I’ve covered some lofty greats here. Some people hate that I dare to tread hallowed ground but I’ve been practicing at not caring for a quarter century, since I played “Hurt” at the talent show in ninth grade.

I got in a fight with someone I was dating a few years ago, when I jokingly mentioned I might be Ian Curtis (who died a few months before my birth) reincarnated, and he said “How dare you compare yourself to such a lyrical genius,” and I said, “You don’t have to agree with me, but *I MUST* think I’m on par with the greatest songwriters and performers, otherwise I would never have the guts to make a a goddamn thing.”

Still, it is a relief when the Leonard Cohen and David Bowie covers are ones that my audience (ie my $2+ Patreon backers) have demanded I cover, by popular vote. I do my absolute damnedest to play them well, but the pressure is off in terms of those assholes who want to say “how very dare you cover this song, originally written by a genius man, little girl.” I’m just giving the people what they want!

Love forever to Kat and Ben Mulkey, and big thanks to Tom, Laura, Melanie, Emily, for emotional and musical support. And Leo — baby, you’re the best!
